Magical Merrymaking

Tomorrow is the first day of December and you know what that means!
Christmas season will officially begin :) although judging by the decorations in many stores, you would've thought it had started immediately following Halloween!

I love the winter holidays, especially Christmas traditions.  Decorating the tree, drinking hot chocolate, snuggling by the fireplace...it's just such a magical time where everything is cheery and festive and bright.

Shadow Stripes on Silk

Happy Halloween everyone!  As a kid, I loved Halloween because hey, free candy.  Now that I'm an adult, I love the days right after Halloween...because all the candy goes on sale :P

I love love love this Diane von Furstenberg dress, when I saw it, I knew I had to have it.  The 100% silk construction feels amazing and the self-tie bow and long cuffs all contribute to a super vintage vibe.  At the same time though, I think this is timeless enough look that I would still wear it to work.  Basically, emotional me + practical me are both happy with this purchase :)

Cats & Cameras

Sharing a photo set featuring two of my loves today :)

So excited with my case of treasures!

I picked up this vintage suitcase from the 613 flea market in August, just when I had pretty much  given up on finding the perfect one.  All the others I had seen looked fine from the outside, but were stained or ripped on the inside.  And hey, it's what's one the inside that really counts, right? :P

Vintage suitcase smells interesting? Rocky is intrigued

Almost Kennedy @ Avant-Garde

Hi guys! Super quick post sharing some photos from a gig I shot a little while back.
Yes, I am indeed shooting other things in addition to the monthly vintage series!  Finding the time to shoot is honestly not the hard part -- it's trying to keep up with the editing/posting takes me a while :(
But I'm slowly making progress and this is proof of that! More photos to come soon, I promise :)

And without further ado: Almost Kennedy! A local Ottawa indie/alternative rock band and they're pretty darn amazing.

I had lots of fun jamming out to their original music while shooting this performance!

Corndogs & Cotton Candy

Wasn't it just last week that had temperatures in the 30s and now tomorrow is the first day of September?  Summer seems to have, once again, gone by much too quickly :(
Still, I'm glad that at the very least I got to cram in some traditional summer activities, including going to the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), also known as the EX.

Sunflower fields

Happy Sunday! Super excited to share these photos today :)

I've always wanted to go visit the sunflowers fields.  I've never seen them in real life and missed it last year.  Luckily for me, this weekend was the perfect time -- and the weather was so cooperative! Sunny with blue skies and fluffy white clouds, could not have asked for anything better. <3

Baby Blue

It's a long weekend here in Ontario, and for most people that means an extra day to relax.
Not me unfortunately :(

Long weekends are always crazy busy for me.  Whether I'm running back to Toronto or just running around aimlessly, the weekend is almost more tiring than the work week.

Pinup Pt. 3 - Coca-Cola Cooldown

Oh my god, it's finally summer.
And holy jeez, it's so summer.  Already got some pretty high temperatures in June, although you won't ever find me complaining.  I know a lot of people can't stand the heat but I've been waiting all winter/spring to be able to wear shorts and sandals instead of pants and parkas.

But it doesn't mean I don't like to enjoy a cold beverage during those 30+ degrees days.
And honestly, while it isn't my first choice of drinks (I prefer lemonade or iced tea), I've always admired Coca-Cola's iconic brand and style.  Their advertisements, especially the vintage ones, have such strong brand recognition that I really wanted to try my hand at emulating the same feel.  For some of the photos, I tried to caption it with an appropriate slogan from Coke's long history of advertising.

"The cold, crisp taste of Coke" - 1958
And with Canada Day around the corner, it felt kind of patriotic shooting the white and red :)
So cheers to Coke and their impressive 130 years of history (1886-2016!) and happy Canada Day weekend to my fellow Canadians!

Super Sour & Sugar Sweet

Have you ever tried a Super Lemon?  Because you should really try a Super Lemon.
Super Lemon has got to be one of my favourite candies.  They are, as the name implies, super sour, but also super delicious.
And if you make it past the first layer of the super sour powder, the hard candy underneath is actually quite sweet.

as sweet as these blossoms smelled :)
And this preamble is totally related because this dress is named “Super Lemon”.  Yes, sometimes I give names to my clothes.  No, I’m sure I can't be the only one.  Shhh, don’t judge me so loudly; I can hear you through the internet.

All Aboard! (Another Adventure Awaits)

End of April always feels like an obligatory time to travel.
The warming of the weather, the changing of the winds.
Exams are done, and all the students head off -- some, for home; while others, anywhere but.

Snow in Springtime

I originally wanted a rainy day theme for March's vintage shoot but we got more snow this month than we did in December...
Welcome to springtime in Canada: where the weather's made up and the season doesn't matter.

This shoot compared to January's and February's was many times more difficult, and I had gone out on not one, not two, but three separate occasions to try to complete this set (weather was super uncooperative).  So it's safe to say this batch of photos did not come easy -- although in the end, I'm pretty happy with the results.  Hope you enjoy these photos!

Photography Walk on Capital Hill

After January and February's vintage posts, I admit to being a little overly-optimistic in how things work out for the vintage photoshoot ideas I have planned. I wanted to try an outdoor shoot for March but Ottawa got slammed with 50cm+ of snow in its first two weeks... so unfortunately, that didn't really align with the visuals I had in mind.  It was somewhat warmer (ie. raining) when I first started writing this blog post...but it looks like we're seeing some more snow.  So much for first week of Spring! Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'll be able to get a Spring-style shoot in before the end of the month.

One weekend gave the slightest hint of the end of winter, at a record warmth of 2 degrees above zero, and so my new photog buddy Nick and I went on a photography walk around Parliament. I haven't really visited the buildings but apparently tours need to be booked waaay in advance so I've made a note to self to go next time.

We also went down to the lock station which was semi-frozen. The Ottawa River pathway was closed off but it didn't stop anyone (including us) from taking a lovely stroll into the snow scene.

rules were meant to be broken, right?

The pathway is frequently used by runners during nicer weather but under current conditions, we only ventured a wee bit in to grab some shots, even less for me considering the lack of proper footwear.

Turning around, I set my sights on the Fairmont Chateau Laurier.

Pinup Pt. 2 - Vintage Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day!

So excited to share this batch of photos with you guys!  As you can see from the title, not only is this February's post of my 2016 Vintage, but the sequel to my first pinup photoshoot from last summer.  I love the glamourous look of old-school vintage pinup photos and wanted to try my best to emulate the same feel.  To be perfectly honest, it wasn't easy getting into the right headspace at first but I'm pretty happy with how these photos turned out.

Tea time at Tiffany's

First post of 2016 whoo! One of my (many) new year's resolutions is to try to be more consistent with my photoshooting and blog-posting, so I set a small goal of at least 1 post per month.
As you can see, I'm barely managing to scrape by with January's post -- but hey! I still made it :)

I've always liked the vintage look and the idea behind this photoshoot is something I've been planning for a long long time.  However, I was missing some key pieces until not too long ago.  I'll speak to them some more in a bit, let's jump straight to the photos, shall we?
